v1.c28.s8.t5.1

We have mentioned the Magadha tradition (along with Gāndhāra and Mathurā traditions) influencing the brass-icon metallurgy of Kashmir (*vide* Table 20.7). The Pāla tradition spreaded across Nepal to Tibet starting from the beginning of the ninth century, and therefore we may consider the Tibetan scenario, at least up to the twelfth century AD, as part of the scenario of Greater India. It is true that the Newar sculptors from Nepal and the brass-casters of Kashmir helped making the Tibetan icons during the same period (Lo Bue, 1981a: 33-34; 1981b: 69-70), but the Nepalese and Kashmiri traditions were also Indian.
