Some 350 Buddhist bronzes — of Buddha, Lokanātha, Lokeśvara, Maitreya, Tārā, Vasudhārā, miniature stūpa and bells, etc. — have been unearthed from Nagapattinam. (Ramachandran, 1954 and 1956) Some of these bronzes belong to the early Cola period (AD 871-1070) and a large number of the rest to the later Cola period (AD 1070-1250).
