Turquoise is a hydrous phosphate of aluminium and copper. It may be considered to be an aggregate of orthophosphoric acid molecules hooked with (CuOH) and Al(OH)₂ radicals, the tentative formula being H₅(CuOH) [Al(OH)₂]₆ (PO₄)₄. The sky blue, dark blue or bluish colour is due to copper.
