Patañjali was a contemporary of Puśyamitra Śuṅga (c. 187-151 bc). He was not only a great grammarian, composing the famous *Mahābhāṣya* of Pāṇini, but also a philosopher of mind and body. Bhoja commented in his *Nyāyavartika*.
