It is truly very difficult to conjecture now correctly what was really implied by Āpastamba by that remark, whether he held that method of circling a square was an exact or an inexact one. We may be, however, sure to this exent that the interpretation of the orthodox commentators cannot be brushed aside as unlikely as is supposed by Thibaut.
