¹ The printed text has *trayodaśa* or "thirteen." It seems to be a mistake. For it was intended to construct a Fire-altar having an area equal to 101½ square puruṣas. Now the method adopted produces one with an area of 108 1/14 square puruṣas. So 108 1/14 − 101½ or 6 4/7 square puruṣas are in excess. In round numbers this might be stated as equal to 7 square puruṣas. But "thirteen" cannot be justified. So I think that here again the text should be amended to *sapta* or "seven."
