Śivadāsa, son of Nārada, a resident of the city of Benares, wrote a commentary on the *Mānava Śulba*. His younger brother, Śaṅkarabhaṭṭa is the commentator of *Maitrāyaṇīya Śulba*. Both the brothers quote from Rāma Vājapeya, who is no other than the commentator of the *Kātyāyana Śulba*. Śivadāsa has quoted the second Bhāskara's (1150 A.D.) *Rule of Three*, and also from his *Līlāvatī*, by name. He must have been posterior to the celebrated Sāyaṇa (1320-1380 A.D.) whom he quotes.
