A complete list of the various *Kāmya Agni* together with a statement of the objects for the attainment of which, each of them is to be constructed and sacrifices made therein, is found in the *Taittirīya Saṁhitā*.² That has been practically reproduced in the *Baudhāyana Śrauta-sūtra*.³ The enumeration of most of them appears in the *Maitrāyaṇīya Saṁhitā*⁴ and *Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa*.⁵ It may be noted, though it is immaterial for our purpose, that the construction of Fire-altars other than the *Suparṇa-citi* ("the eagle-shaped altar") is forbidden in the latter work.
