4. The earliest form of this numeral in the inscriptions of Aśoka resembles the letter *ka*; the Nânâghât and Nâsik cave forms resemble the syllable *pka*. While this seems to have been the case with most of the later inscriptions, forms resembling the syllables *pna*, *lka*, *ṭka*, *pkṛ* are also to be met with.
