$bx + c = y²$ is called *varga-kuṭṭaka* or the "Square-pulveriser,"¹ inasmuch as, when expressed in the form $(y²-c)/b = x,$ the problem reduces to finding a square (*varga*) which being diminished by c will be exactly divisible by b, which closely resembles the problem solved by the method of the pulveriser (*kuṭṭaka*).
