⁷⁸ [^78]: The *schigram* of the Indian astronomy, is the equation of the centre. The *manda-phala* is the equation of the centre, and the *sighra-phala* is the equation of the orbit, or the parallax of the earth’s annual motion. The *manda-karna* is the distance of the planet from the earth, when the equation of the centre is applied; and the *sighra-karna* is the distance when the parallax of the earth’s orbit is applied. The *manda-karna* is the hypothenuse of a triangle, of which the radius of the orbit is one side, and the sine of the anomaly of the eccentric is the other. This is a very remarkable coincidence.
