7. *The Śaṅku* (Gnomon) :— Śaṅku is a piece of a round, straight and uniformly thick rod 12 ‘anguls’ in length and having its ends plane and uniform. The chapter on three problems describes methods of finding time etc. from the shadow cast by it.
