A RECENT publication of Mr. René Labat, *Traité akkadien de diangostics et pronostics médicaux*² has considerably enriched our knowledge of Mesopotamian medicine. It has a particular significance for the general history of science because of the light it throws on one of the oldest medical traditions and due to the point of comparison furnished by it, as regards other ancient medical traditions, which can be linked with it or which have at least been developed only a little later.
