The Iranian systemisation necessarily takes the origin of all the diseases back to the spirit of the Evil, Aṅra Mainyu (Vid., XXV. 2) or to various other beings connected with him. Chief among them are, on the one hand, the yātus, the pairikās and the jainis, exorcised conjointly at the end of the fargards, XX, XXI, XXII of the Videvdāt and on the other hand and with less surety, the drugs (druj) Nasu and Jahi.
