¹ It is evident that *cikitsya* must not be translated as "to treat" or "to be cured". *Cikitsya*, the desiderative form of the root *cit*., "to think", signifies "to take into consideration, of which one must occupy oneself." It is by means of a current specialisation that it is often taken to mean "treatable" or "to treat", the sense which mixes itself with that of "curable" because it is a principle of classical medicine that only curable ailments should be treated.
