There is a direction for the Caeserean section on a dead mother. If at the time of delivery the woman dies (in the 9th month or later—Dallana) like a goat (i. e. suddenly by throttling—Dallana) and her abdomen is palpitating, the surgeon should cut it forth and extract out the foetus. The reading in AS 2.4.52 (bastidvāre for bastamāram) does not mention sudden death of the mother, but only mentions throbbing of the abdomen over the urethral passage as an indication for the operation. Vr 868, on the contrary, definitely mentions death (*abhighātāt*). An expert surgeon can obtain wealth and fame by such operation.
