2. Ceylon :— Buddhism had brought medicine to Ceylon still earlier than to Tibet. However, apart from the Sāratthasaṅgaha³ (§ 14) known only from the continuation of the Mahāvaṃsa, the Yogārṇava ( 13th century A. D. ) appears to be the oldest medical work⁴. The modern Simhalese publications⁵ and the Simhalese MSS on medicine⁶ at the British Museum appear to be based throughout on Sanskrit models.
