Dakṣiṇovṛtti Yantra.—The construction of the Dakṣiṇo Vṛtti Yantra, or mural quadrant, is clearly seen in plates XXI and figure 56. It is of the same principle as the similar instruments at Ujjain and Benares (that at Delhi has disappeared). On the east face are two quadrants of 20 feet radius, and on the west face is a semicircle of 19 feet 10 inches radius. It was used for taking meridian altitudes.
