*Horizons.*—The tablet of the horizons (*al-Ṣafīḥat al-āfāqiyah*) is shown in figure 16. The horizons are arranged in four sets—one set in each quadrant consisting of six or seven horizons—and below each of these sets are two scales termed *al-mail al-kullī* (*shamālī* or *janūbī*) or the total obliquity (northern or southern).
