Fīrūz used to send ships every year from the ports of Goa and Chaul to different countries particularly to invite to his Court men celebrated for their learning. This is a feature of literary ardour quite peculiar to him. It was his opinion that kings should draw around them the most learned men, in order that they might help them with information and advice. Of the many learned men assembled at his Court, we hear of Mullā Isḥāq Sarhindī, who was famous for his wit and scholarship.²
