"It is called the Āyurveda or the Science of life because it enables us to understand what Ayu or life is. If asked how it explains life, the answer is this:—it is called Āyurveda because it brings home to us the nat re of Ayu by characterisation, by happiness, by misery, by good and evil, and by positive and negative proofs."
