The total extent of the *Carakasaṃhitā* is said to be 12,000 units (verses and passages in prose) in a verse at the end of the treatise,²⁸ which is probably spurious.²⁹ The actual number of verses is 9,035; the prose passages amount to a number of 1,111.³⁰
