Jyotir Mitra, who claims a very early date for the *Carakasamhitā*, suggests that it may have been retouched by a physician, bearing the title of Caraka, who was a contemporary of Kaniṣka.⁵⁰ Atrideva⁵¹ appears to hold a similar opinion.
