Persons called Aggivessana are moreover known from the history of the Ājīvikas.264 Aggivesāyaṇa is a name found in Ardhamāgadhī literature; the Jaina canonical text Vyākhyāprajñapti or Bhagavatīsūtra tells about a visit to Makkhali Gosāla, the founder of the Ājīvikas, by six wandering ascetic philosophers, one of whom was a certain Aggivesāyaṇa.265
