v1.c20.s3.59
A fanciful theory has been advanced by G. Hāldār. 594 This author assumed that Dṛḍhabala’s father, a paṇḍit born in Kaśmīr, moved, later in life, to the Pañjāb, and settled in Lavapura (i.e., Lahore), where his children were born. In his view, Pañcanadapura cannot be but Lavapura, because Pañcanada designates the Pañjāb and Lavapura is the pura of this region. He counters the identification of Pañcanadapura with Vārāṇasī by the arguments that the latter city is a purī, not a pura, and that the rivers of Vārāṇasī are referred to as nadī, not nada. 595
