v1.c20.s3.65

The assertion that Drdhabala borrowed from the Siddhayoga is contradicted by the fact that none of the numerous verses from Drdhabala’s chapters of the Carakasamhitā in Vrnda’s work is ascribed to that author in the commentary. The same applies to the Mādhavanidāna and its commentaries. Vijayaraksita states straightforwardly that Mādhava included one of Drdhabala’s verses in his treatise as a complement to a verse found in the Suśrutasamhitā. Hoernle’s assertion that Vijayaraksita’s object was not to make a chronological, but an exegetical statement, was undoubtedly prompted by his need to explain away a fact running counter to his theory.604
