v1.c20.s3.72

P.V. Sharma disagrees with Hoernle in regarding the Aṣṭāṅgasamgraha as a work of a later date than Dṛḍhabala. He argues that the succinct treatment of pañcakarman in the Aṣṭāṅgasamgraha, compared with the elaborate treatment by Dṛḍhabala, testifies to the latter’s anteriority. He also points to the quotation from Kapilabala (A.s.Sū. 20.17), identified by P.V. Sharma as Dṛḍhabala’s father, which is, however, a debatable issue.606
