Jamadagni is already associated with medicine in the Vedas. A verse of Ṛgveda 10.137, a hymn said to be curative of all diseases, is ascribed to him in Sāyaṇa’s commentary. Atharvaveda 5.23.10 connects Jamadagni with the destruction of worms; 6.137 alludes to the story that he uprooted the herb nitaṭnī in order to promote the growth of his daughter’s hair.394
