Cyavana is a well-known sage in Sanskrit literature.²⁶⁸ The story how the Aśvins made him, when he was very old, youthful again, is referred to in some hymns of the Ṛgveda²⁶⁹ and told in various texts, for example the Jaiminīyabrāhmaṇa, Pañcavimśabrāhmaṇa, Śatapathabrāhmaṇa, Mahābhārata,²⁷⁰ and Aṣṭāṅgasamgraha.²⁷¹ Cyavana was a son of Bhṛgu; hence he is called Bhārgava in the Carakasamhitā²⁷² and Aṣṭāṅgasamgraha.²⁷³
