A relative chronology has thus been obtained, which enables us to place the commentators Jejjata, Gadādhara, Vāpyacandra, Mādhavakara and Kārttikakuṇḍa, the one following upon the other, in the period A.D. 600–900.⁴³³ Unfortunately, the identity of the commentator Mādhavakara cannot be established with certainty; otherwise, if he were the same as the author of the Mādhavanidāna, the first three could be assigned to the period between A.D. 600 and the eighth century.
