HIMADATTA 305 is quoted as an early commentator on the Carakasamhitā by Jejjata, 306 who accepts a certain reading on the authority of this author and some others, mentioned along with him. 307 According to P.V.Sharma, he also wrote a commentary on the Astāngahrdayasamhitā and has to be placed in the eighth century. 308 G. Hāldār 309 also mentions this commentary on the Astāngahrdayasamhitā and asserts that he is somewhat earlier than the ninth century. B. Tripāthī 310 places him in the ninth century. Actually, Himadatta's date depends on that of Jejjata, who quotes him.
