v1.c23.119
All the diseases are rooted in vāta, pitta and kapha; in the same way all the evolutes (vikāra) derive from sattva, rajas and tamas.264 The diversity of the diseases arises from the interplay (saṃsarga) among doṣas, dhātus and malas, the specificity of their seats (āyatanaviśeṣa), and their (various) causes (nimitta). They are called after the dhātu that has been corrupted by a doṣa (24.8).
