v1.c23.49

The correct way of applying a kṣāra is described (11.18); turning black of the diseased part is the sign of proper burning (dagdhalakṣaṇa) by the caustic; when this occurs, neutralization (śamana) by an acid should follow (11.19). A particular ointment should be applied if the diseased part does not come off (11.20–21). The granulation (ropaṇa) of the wound should be promoted by a particular paste (11.22ab). The way in which acids neutralize caustics is explained (11.22cd–25). 114 The signs of adequate, inadequate and excessive application are mentioned (11.26), followed by the way to treat the lesion (kṣāradagdhavraṇa) (11.27).
