In contrast with these views of P.V. Sharma, the majority of the scholars who studied the structure and contents of the Suśrutasaṃhitā agree that the work is due to two authors and consists of two layers, an early one, attributed to Suśruta, and a later one, deriving from a reviser, who not only rewrote parts of the text, but also added the Uttaratantra. This reviser is usually referred to as Nāgārjuna.
