The extant text exhibits features which unmistakably indicate that earlier traditions and treatises were known. Diverging opinions, held by various unnamed authorities, are repeatedly referred to.256 The school of the vedavādinaḥ is mentioned once.257 Opinions attributed to particular authorities do occur,258 but are less frequent than in the Carakasaṃhitā.
