v1.c23.s3.6
An extreme view was expressed by E. Haas,208 who tried to demonstrate that āyurveda heavily borrowed from the medical science of the Muslims, in its turn based on Greek medicine. He was convinced that the name Suśruta had developed from the Arabic equivalents of the name of the Greek father of medicine, Hippokrates. He denied that Suśruta was known in the Muslim world in the eighth century, and considered him to belong to the twelfth century. The reasonings of E. Haas were invalidated by A. Müller.209
