The Hārītasamhitā shows that, at least in the tradition to which this treatise belongs, Caraka was held to have preceded Suśruta. Hārīta’s pariśiṣṭādhyāya describes Caraka as belonging to the Kṛtayuga, Suśruta to the Dvāparayuga.
