The name of an ancient sage called Uśanas is found in the Ṛgveda, later Vedic literature, the Purāṇas, and literary works.⁷⁵ Uśanas is also referred to and quoted as an authority on poetics,⁷⁶ nītiśāstra,⁷⁷ dharmaśāstra, and dhanurveda.⁷⁸
