This list of vāta disorders is of a mixed character; some are vāta diseases and described as such (Ca.Ci.26), some are found in lists of symptoms brought about by vāta.391 Moreover, the list is incomplete, because many more types of śūla, etc., are known than those enumerated in it.392 Nevertheless, the eighty vāta disorders have become an established element of āyurvedic doctrine and are found in many later treatises.393
