v1.c8.46

The groups begin with medicinal substances which are jīvanīya (vitalizing) and end with those which are vayaḥsthāpana (preserving youthful vigour), thus stressing the rasāyana aspect of āyurveda. The arrangement, names and actions of the fifty groups are remarkable in several respects and suggest that Sū.4 may represent an old part of the Carakasaṃhitā.
