No particulars about Vṛnda are known, except that he may have lived in Eastern Bengal, 116 i.e., the country now called Bangla Desh. Niścalakara mentions that Vṛnda belonged to Varendra, a region referred to in the *Siddhayoga*. 117 Confusion on the identity of the author of the *Siddhayoga* was formerly created by Hoernle, who held the opinion that the treatise had been written by Mādhavakara, and claimed that the *Rogaviniścaya* and the *Siddhayoga* were clearly the two parts of a single work by one author. 118 Hoernle was unaware of the existence of the *Mādhavacikitsā*.
