The Kāśyapasaṃhitā is composed in the form of a dialogue between Kaśyapa as the teacher and Vṛddhajīvaka as his pupil. Some of the colophons refer to the treatise as Vṛddhajīvakīya Kaumārabhṛtya (92 and 146), Vṛddhajīvakīya Tantra (227), Vṛddhakāśyapīya Saṃhitā (324), and Bhārgaviya Saṃhitā (331).⁶
