The maṅgala is addressed to Śambhu, i.e., Śiva, whose five mouths revealed the five Vedas, i.e., Ṛg-, Yajur-, Sāma-, Atharva-, and Āyurveda. Maheśa, i.e., Śiva, transmitted his knowledge of the Vaidyaka, i.e., Āyurveda, to Dhātar, i.e., Brahmā or Prajāpati; Dhātar gave it to Turāṣāḥ, i.e., Indra, and Indra in his turn to Kaṇāda.
