21 Suśruta Medhāvin is not mentioned in other sources. He has, without any compelling reason, been identified with Suśruta by P. Cordier (1901a: 79–80), Hariprapanna (Intr. to his Rasayogasāgara, 70–71), and A.F.R. Hoernle (1909: 883). One of the authors not accepting this identity is Sūramcandra (1978: 256). Suśruta is nowhere mentioned as being instructed by Ātreya in āyurvedic literature; both are members of a group of sages in the Bower MS (Part I).
