246 See G.J. Meulenbeld (1974): 196–199 and 212 on the varieties distinguished in other treatises; diarrhoea caused by blood is not recognized as an independent variety by Caraka, Suśruta and Vāgbhaṭa. *Āmātisāra*, a distinct variety in the *Suśrutasaṃhitā* (U.40.7ab), is incidentally referred to in the *Hāritasamhitā* (III.3.10). The type of diarrhoea called *pravāhikā* is not described in the *Hāritasamhitā*, although a quotation from Hārīta in the *Madhukośa* (ad *Mādhavanidāna* 3.21) refers to this disorder.
