Pilla is a synonym of the disease of the eyelids called aklinnavartman; according to some it is the same as klinnavartman (Ḍalhaṇa ad Su.U.3.21–22; Madhukośa ad Mādhavanidāna 59.88–89). G.D. Singhal and K.R. Sharma (1976: 35) regard (a)klinnavartman as conjunctivitis (i.e., blear-eye). Pilla also designates a rather large group of eye diseases (see A.h.U.16).
