**Terms for Teachers.** Four terms are used to indicate the teacher, viz. *Āchārya*, *Guru*, *Śikshaka*, and *Upādhyāya*. It may be noted that the term *Āchārya* is reserved by Patañjali for application to the highest type of teacher, to an original thinker and master like Pāṇini, while the other three terms he uses with reference to the ordinary teachers.
