The Sāṁkhya authorities compare this consciousness to a two-faced mirror, of which one face is turned towards and reflects pure consciousness (Purusha), and the other towards Prakṛiti or objects (Buddhi-darpaṇasaṁkrāntamarthaviprativimbakaṁ Dvitīyadarpaṇakalpe purushe hi adhirohati).
