**Its Two Features.** It is to be noted that *Āgama* is marked by two features: (1) that it comprises words which are actually uttered, and (2) that the words should be those of an admitted authority (*āpta-vākya*). The knowledge that is derived from a study of books (*pāṭhaja-niśchaya*) is not *Āgama*.
