**Regulation of Breath.** The steadiness of mind (*manasaḥ sthitiḥ*) is to be achieved by the process called *Prāṇāyāma*, consisting of the two functions called (1) *Prachchhardanam*, the gradual ejection (*vamanam*) of the abdominal wind (*koshṭhasya vāyuḥ*) through the apertures of the nose by a special kind of effort as described in books of Yoga; (2) *Vidhāraṇam*, retention or restraint of breath. By this process the body becomes light and *antaḥkaraṇa*, stable.
